60-Second Nervous System Reset

Long exhales, a humming breath, then a cold cue. Three steps that tell your vagus nerve you are safe. Free, guided, about one minute.

Ready

Press start. Breathe with the circle.

Done. That was one full reset. Twice a day for a week and it starts working faster.

Why these three steps

  1. Long exhales (4 in, 8 out). A slow exhale raises vagal tone and slows the heart within a few breaths. The exhale is the lever, not the inhale.
  2. Humming. The vagus nerve runs beside the larynx. Humming vibrates it directly, which is why chanting and singing calm people down.
  3. Cold on the face or neck. Cold water on the face triggers the dive reflex, a built-in slowdown of the heart. A cold can on the back of the neck works too.
